Is There Anything More Passé Than Starting a Blog?

It’s lame when everyone else does it, but I’m different!

It’s 2020 and I have decided to start a blog. I couldn’t help but wonder, would Carrie have blogged her way through quar?

I’d pretend I was doing this ironically but I think I’m too far gone for that. At this point, a blog is vintage! May it harken us to a more simple time. I myself don’t read any blogs but I will implore you to read this one. We both know we have the time on our hands. Just try not to grimace when I abuse the Instagram ‘swipe up’ feature to connect you to yet another SquareSpace website.

I’ve sort of always wanted to be a writer but never really acted on it, save for a box of composition notebooks filled with artistically remembered histories, and a handful of poems dashed across literary magazines. I am inspired by the poet-scholar Onika Maraj, who once said: “you can’t be Pablo if your work ain’t selling,” which I take to mean that you cannot be the thing which you purport to be without proper documentation and effective accolades as a result of your actions. Ergo, one cannot be a writer without writing. I repeat this to myself daily like a mantra.

I won’t lie, this is in part due to a recent re-screening of Julie and Julia. Don’t read into that (too much), please. I too hope to catch the eye of my idol, in this case not Julia Child, but the Chief of Staff at theSkimm. I can write cheeky copy and here I am doing it! Please hire me to explain a stock market crash in terms of Priyanka Chopra outfits. I can expound upon our electoral candidates in neat listicles, or compare them to various members of the cast of Love is Blind.

I’m a digital native and this is one small step for our kind. Help me plant the flag in the unmapped territory of this section of the internet and stay tuned for more content soon.
